Obesity and its dermatological disorders
Keywords:
Obesity, dermatological disordersAbstract
Current overweight and obesity figures merge as a public health in Mexico. A major land-
mark of obesity related morbidity is the expression of skin disorders as a result of metabolic
alterations produced by excessive fat tissue. Such diseases as achantosis nigricans, plantar
hyperkeratosis and fibromas, must be considered as clinical signs of alarm, which are
closely related to obesity in patients who have insulin resistance. Skin pathological changes
are described here in order to emphasize the importance of correlationship among skin-
obesity-metabolism.
