Abstract

Today, there is a high demand for imaging studies, so it is necessary to implement methods of
quality assurance in radiology departments to ensure that resources have an optimal impact
on health and welfare of the population. However, to date few methods have included the
impact of medical technology on the quality of health services, and assessments have focused
on measuring mortality, disease duration, wait times and coverage. The strategy for evaluating
the quality of health services focused on clinical and epidemiological criteria is not enough.
In this paper, we propose a methodology to assess the quality of radiology service through

structure and process indicators based on the dimensions of effectiveness, efficiency, continu-
ity, productivity and security. When the technology is the most appropriate; the radiological

diagnosis is accurate, well-timed and offers new opportunities to impact in the efficiency,
effectiveness and productivity of health services in the benefit-risk balance.
