Differences between clinically based individual therapy with and without the BNB method in children with expressive language disorder: A pilot study
Abstract
Abstract
Background. Expressive language disorder presents a deficit in the combinatorial activity of the verbal motor kinesthetic analyzer, manifesting, among other things: phonemic omission and substitution, unintelligible speech, and clumsiness in fine and/or gross motor coordination. Clinically based individual therapy establishes a specific treatment for each child. The BNB method stimulates the neurodevelopment of the Central Nervous System to achieve the maturation of subcortical and cortical structures and their abilities. Objective: To compare the results of clinically based individual therapy with and without the BNB method in children with expressive language disorder. Material and Method: A pilot case-control study was conducted, evaluating sensitivity, language problems (PLI), and child development (EDI) in 24 children before and after treatment with individual therapy (48 sessions for the control group and 26 sessions for the case group plus 26 sessions with the BNB method). Results: Differences were found between groups in movement sensitivity, fine and gross motor coordination; and EDI test results: significant in PLI and EDI. Conclusions: Complementing conventional therapy with the Behaviors Neurological Base (BNB) method helps overcome weaknesses in language components in a shorter treatment time, promoting family attachment.
Keywords: expressive language delay, neurological basis of behaviors, speech therapy
