Long-term Preservation Policy

Investigación en Discapacidad recognizes the importance of ensuring the long-term accessibility and preservation of scholarly content. To safeguard our publications against data loss, technological obsolescence, or unexpected disruptions, we have implemented robust digital preservation strategies through partnerships with LOCKSS and CLOCKSS.

Key Elements of Our Preservation Policy:

  1. Partnership with LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe)

    • LOCKSS is an open-source initiative developed by Stanford University that allows libraries to collect, preserve, and provide access to their own local copies of e-journal content.
    • By participating in the LOCKSS program, the content of Investigación en Discapacidad is replicated and stored across a distributed network of partner libraries worldwide. This decentralized approach ensures that the journal’s content remains accessible even in the event of server failures or institutional challenges.
  2. Integration with CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS)

    • CLOCKSS is a not-for-profit service that builds upon LOCKSS to create a “dark archive” for scholarly content. In the event of a journal going out of publication or becoming inaccessible, CLOCKSS ensures that the content is made openly available to the public, ensuring uninterrupted access.
    • Content archived in CLOCKSS is securely stored in a geographically distributed network of trusted repositories. This ensures that our journal’s scholarly contributions are preserved indefinitely.
  3. Format Migration and Technological Sustainability

    • LOCKSS and CLOCKSS provide ongoing support for file format migration to ensure that content remains accessible regardless of changes in technology or software obsolescence.
    • This proactive approach ensures that readers can access articles published in Investigación en Discapacidad far into the future, regardless of technological advancements or challenges.
  4. Commitment to Data Integrity

    • The replication and verification processes used by LOCKSS and CLOCKSS ensure that the integrity of the journal’s content is maintained. Any alterations or corruption of data are automatically detected and corrected through consensus mechanisms across the preservation network.
  5. Accessibility in Case of Emergencies

    • In the event of catastrophic failures, institutional closures, or significant disruptions, the CLOCKSS network guarantees the release of the journal’s content to designated repositories, maintaining the availability of research for the global scholarly community.

Ensuring Scholarly Continuity

By partnering with LOCKSS and CLOCKSS, Investigación en Discapacidad affirms its commitment to the long-term preservation and dissemination of knowledge. These preservation initiatives ensure that the scientific and social contributions of the journal remain accessible and secure for current and future generations of researchers, practitioners, and the public.
